After Christmas the Choir will be singing a weekend of services at York Minster as follows: Saturday 29th December 2018 Choral Evensong at 5.15pm, Sunday 30th December 2018 Choral Eucharist at 10.00am, Choral Matins at 11.30am & Choral Evensong at 4.00pm.
It is always good to see some familiar faces in the congregation, so please come along and support us if you can.

This year our devotional performance for Holy Saturday (31st March 2018) will be ‘The Crucifixion’ by John Stainer. The performance will be at 6.00pm at St. John’s. All are welcome.
Choral Evensong for March will be on Palm Sunday (25th). The Introit will be ‘Pueri Hebraeorum’ (Victoria), Responses – Byrd, Canticles – Byrd 2nd Service & the Anthem ‘Hosanna to the Son of David’ (Weelkes).
St John’s choir will be singing Choral Evensong at Selby Abbey at 6.30pm on Sunday 29th October 2017.

St John’s tour this summer was to St German’s Cathedral, Peel on the Isle of Man. The choir sang for two services. The first, Morning Worship with Eucharist, was to the setting ‘Mass of the Quiet Hour’ (Oldroyd) and the Communion Motet was ‘Come Down O Love Divine’ (Stopford). The second was Choral Evensong for which the Introit was ‘A Child Like Me’ (Wills), the Responses were by Aston, the Canticles were Dyson in F and the Anthem was ‘Let All The World In Every Corner Sing’ (Alex Hall).
FEVA Knaresborough Festival of Entertainment & Visual Arts 2017
A weekend full of musical delights took place in & around St John’s for FEVA
Sat 12th August 7.30pm Concert ‘John Metcalf, Man of Vision’ (St John’s)
This musical extravaganza celebrated the life & times of Blind Jack of Knaresborough at the Tri-centenary of his birth. A journey in music through John Metcalf’s extraordinary & colourful life included his original violin played in the church close to where he was born! The concert featured a variety of instrumental & vocal music of the period, as well as some more modern items & a world premiere performance of a new piece, ‘Epitaph for Blind Jack’, written especially for the occasion by local composer Brian Hoare. Performers included St John’s Choir, Voix Celestes, Cadenza, Knaresborough Choral Society, St Mary’s RC Church Choir & Knot Another Choir with the Honest Singers from Musselborough.

Sunday 13th August 7.30 pm Romantics with Pro Musica (St John’s)
Knaresborough Pro Musica, Leader Richard Fletcher, revealed their sentimental side with a veritable feast of romantic classics, appearing alongside the award winning Cassia String Quartet. Music included: Lark Ascending (Vaughan Williams), Introduction & Allegro for Strings (Elgar) and Serenade for Strings (Tchaikovsky).
